I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This has not influenced my review in any way.
I was fairly indifferent to Love Volume 1 (The Tiger), but The Fox renewed my interest in the series.
Where The Tiger ended on a daunting ‘isn’t nature so harsh?’ sort of note, The Fox ended on a ‘isn’t nature so beautiful?’ sort of note. The comic reads like a wordless parable or something out of a Mother Goose book (but for older audiences).
Even though The Fox wasn’t life changing, it was certainly enjoyable. The art is top notch with particular recognition for Bertolucci’s use of movement in his images.
Overall this felt like a comic book with the depth of a short picture book. We don’t really have characters so much as forces of nature and so I think this limited my enjoyment of the volume. Unfortunately my overall rating was a bit low because I just felt the volume didn’t really give me anything new.
